Selective Attentions

Hey there! Welcome to my blog journal! I'm Caprice, and welcome to my shiny new home on Dreamwidth! I'm 100% out of my element but also pretty excited!

I've been an active Tumblr user for a while, but the recent trend of young adults ascribing to and proselytizing a stringent purity culture outlook in fandom spaces has me looking for greener pastures. I'm here to find new communities and connections, make and improve my own content, and generally have a good time with like-minded individuals. :D

As for me, I'm drawn to scifi literature, genre-bending music, and video games with convoluted plots. My favorites for each are the works of Isaac Asimov, Nightwish, and Kingdom Hearts, respectively, but I have lots of other soft spots for lots of other types of media. This journal will be a mixture of personal posts and fandom-y content--if you'd like access to the personal posts, leave a comment! If you don't want the personal posts (and I don't blame you)...carry on, I guess? Either way, do you. :)

I got through the first round of editing tonight! (To edit, I go through several rounds of reading my work through, making changes, making notes of things to look at later, then go through the whole thing again, et cetera and so forth.) I'm happy to make the progress, even if I'm not 100% sold on the results.

I'm not usually this hot-and-cold about my projects. I wonder what's up with this one, specifically. (I did make some thematic changes in this first round of edits, and changed the story trajectory into a series of fics rather than one self-contained fic, but both of those decision helped my morale. Idk.)

and between you and me, I feel like a lot of the negativity I've been feeling around my current draft is just displacement from other stressors in my life. /sigh
truth be told, that displacement is getting everywhere and if I don't take care of it soon, it's going to tank Many Things. /doublesigh send good vibes if you can spare them

Hoo boy. I'm still not great at this whole Dreamwidth thing. Posting original content, what a concept. (I guess that's not strictly true, since I promote my fics on here, but like. I only write those occasionally, and not all of them make it to my journal for Reasons.)

Anyway, I went looking for a suitable icon for personal-ish posts that are less important/more emotionally-rooted/less optimistic than the ones under the default icon and I found this pouting Misato, which is very much a Mood for my current adult life, holy shit. (I first watched Evangelion when I was 14-15ish and didn't quite grasp Misato's whole deal but rewatching it as an adult has me Relating Hard. x.x)

My experience lately hasn't been sunshiney, for lack of a better term. Not necessarily bad, per se, but tiring. Had a lot of drama happening in my peripheral vision, in my family and my broader social life. I feel bad because I'm vaguely concerned about most of it but vastly apathetic when it comes to... actually doing anything about it. Since I'm not directly involved, there's not much I can do that won't escalate situations, but like. I feel like I should care a bit more.

I've noticed a spike in my creativity outside of work, though. I thrifted together a serviceable cosplay in a couple weeks on the fly, wore it to a convention, and had random people recognize the character and ask for my picture. (This is pretty rare for me, since I tend to go for closet cosplays of obscure characters, lol.) Yesterday I was putting together plans for a handmade Halloween costume that might be able to double as a cosplay if I dress it up a certain way. It's kind of weird, tbh.

Now, if only the writing of my KH Big Bang fic would go as smoothly... I have 1.5 chapters left to write and I can't motivate myself to do it. I'm fatigued by the project. I keep telling myself that the quicker I can get the first draft done, the more time I'll have to recuperate before editing, but it doesn't seem to help. Sigh. I'll figure it out.
(For the record, it's an AkuRokuSai modern!millenial!AU with aro!Roxas, ace!Saix, and too much drama, so like. I'm all about the subject matter. It's just finishing the thing that's getting to me.)

Finally, after much deliberation and red-penning, I would like to present greeneggs101's order from the KH Fic Drive-Thru! It was a bit of a challenge for me (I don't write the KH ladies too often), but I'm overall satisfied with the results. :)

Also, if you look closely, you might notice that it's essentially a Higher-Self-Helps-Regular-Self story using the conceit of having a Nobody. That wasn't on purpose, but I'm glad that it's there.
